A mobile-first solution for 20th century media

Introduction

In today's digital age, creators and rights holders alike face significant challenges when it comes to sampling and remixing media - in our case, 20th century media. Creators are constantly seeking new ways to express their creativity and engage with their audience, but are hindered by complex licensing processes, limited access to content, and a lack of user-friendly tools. Similarly, rights holders struggle to effectively monetize their valuable content, often leaving it untapped and underutilized due to inefficient licensing systems, poor metadata and a lack of visibility.

The current landscape of sampling and remixing nostalgic media is plagued by several key issues:

Currently, the process of obtaining legal permissions to sample or repurpose iconic media assets, such as film scores, video game soundtracks, and radio archives, is  mired in complexity and friction. This hinders the ability of contemporary composers and creators to access and utilize valuable resources in their work. Legacy systems have failed to keep pace with the evolving needs of both creators and rights holders, resulting in missed opportunities for creative innovation and revenue generation.


The core challenge lies in developing a platform that simplifies the licensing process, making it intuitive, efficient, and accessible to all parties involved. By removing barriers and automating key aspects of the agreement process, we can unlock the latent potential of these iconic media assets, fostering new creative expressions and generating fresh revenue streams for rights holders.

Madcraft: Affiliate Digital Magazine/Blog

"Rediscovering the forgotten mad scientists of our time, from last week to last century."

This project is currently still being designed, and as such I cannot yet provide all details. Below is a roadmap that enumerates my goals for the project and outlines some of the processes that I am using to approach the build.

Step 1: Research and Analysis

  • Conduct a SWOT analysis of comparable affiliate blogs to identify their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. (Magnetic Mag, Earmilk, Hybebot)
  • Define the target audience and their preferences regarding content discovery and consumption.
  • Analyze the competitive landscape to identify unique differentiators and opportunities for Mad Craft.

Step 2: Information Architecture and CMS Setup

  • Define the site structure and hierarchy, ensuring easy navigation and content discoverability.
  • Set up multiple CMS collections in Webflow to organize and manage various types of content, such as articles, features, and artist profiles.
  • Configure custom fields within CMS collections to capture relevant metadata and facilitate dynamic content presentation.

Step 3: Ecommerce Integration for Apparel and Merchandise

  • Integrate an ecommerce solution within Webflow to enable the sale of branded apparel and merchandise.
  • Configure product listings, inventory management, and secure payment gateways to facilitate seamless transactions.
  • Design visually appealing product pages and a streamlined checkout process for a delightful user experience.

Step 4: Customized Layouts for Content Categories

  • Design and develop unique layouts for each category of articles and features to align with their respective content types.
  • Implement dynamic templates and styling options to showcase the diversity of content, while ensuring a consistent visual identity.
  • Utilize Webflow's flexible design capabilities to create engaging and responsive layouts optimized for different devices.

Step 5: Iterative Design and Refinement

  • Conduct user testing and gather feedback to refine the user interface and improve overall user experience.
  • Iterate on design elements, typography, color schemes, and interaction patterns based on user insights.
  • Continuously optimize performance and ensure cross-browser compatibility for a seamless browsing experience.
